The NVRHA meets the first Tuesday of each month at the NRA (National Rifle Assoc.) building. This is located near Rt. 66 and Rt. 50 in Fairfax, Va. See "MAP TO OUR MEETING HALL" in the index. The meeting officially starts around 7:30 PM and members usually start arriving around 6:30 PM. Members are encouraged to bring their latest finds. They are noted and included in the clubs next newsletter. We are now also photograph- ing them for display on this web site.. See "LATEST FINDS-PHOTOS" in the index. We also have many experts in our ranks to help identify relics and memorabilia that are recovered. When the meeting convenes, club business and announcements are brought up and discussed by the president and the floor. Members are then asked to show their finds to the rest of the club. Next, the guest speaker is announced and greeted by the member- ship. The NVRHA meetings are very educational. The expert speakers are noted authors, historians, collectors, curators, etc. who bring a wealth of knowledge to all who attend. Most talks are presented with the aid of slides which are shown on a large screen in front of the audience. All meetings are videotaped by the clubs Video Historian. Up until recently, all members were allowed to buy copies of the tapes of the talk at a nominal fee. The Board of Directors is currently discussing a continuation of this policy. See "CLUB NEWS AND NOTES" in the index for updates to this policy. Until a decision is reached, only members attending the meetings in person can purchase tapes of the talks. After the presentation, the speaker is awarded a plaque by the clubs' president in appreciation for sharing their knowledge with the membership. Finally, a 50/50 drawing is held and half of the money raised is awarded to the lucky ticket holder, and the other half added to the clubs coffers. Other prizes donated and bought by the club are raffled off. |
