8:00
Parents & Recruits (the kids) arrive.
9:00
Muster in- Recruits are given their
enlistment papers and are formed into companies and
take
their oath of allegiance.
10:00-12:00 Companies are drilled by
members of Company H 13th
rudiments of close order drill, how to march,
maneuver of arms and other activities that a recruit
in a typical Civil War unit would be
experiencing. During this time, companies also will be
involved in infantry drills, learn about
the cavalry and artillery as well as hear short lectures on
Civil War history at different “stations.”
12:00-1:00 Hearty lunch of period Civil War fare
served in camp style-Yum!
1:00-3:00 Continue
drills as in the 10-12 period. Companies are with their drillmasters and
continue participating in activities and preparing for the
“Grand Battle.”
3:00 Grand
Battle- Parents are encouraged to come and watch the grand finale of the Army
Recruit’s first day. Companies are formed into lines and go
into battle against the Civil War reenactors
of the 13th
Living history and Tours of Fort
Collier continue until 5pm.
